My photography journey: Building Sophsinfocus

I first got into photography back in 2016 while I was still in high school.
At that point, I didn’t have a niche I was just capturing anything and everything. I started by doing shoots with friends and quickly realised how much I enjoyed it. It was something creative that I naturally connected with, even before I knew where it could lead.
How it started
As I continued developing my skills, I began thinking about taking photography more seriously. By 2019, I was preparing to go freelance and turn it into something more than just a hobby. But then COVID hit.
Like a lot of people, that changed things. I had to scale everything back and work on a much smaller level, mostly with people I already knew.
Finding my style during COVID
Although it wasn’t the situation anyone expected, it gave me the time to really focus on my photography.
With everyone spending more time on their phones, I used that as an opportunity to shoot more consistently and explore my creative side. I started experimenting more, posting regularly, and paying attention to what people responded to.
Over time, my content began to gain more attention, and I grew a following which, at the time, felt huge to me. People started engaging more, sharing their own stories, and I began to build a small community around my work.
Social media played a big part in that growth.
I also experimented with longer form content briefly, sharing more about my process and how I created my work, which helped people connect with it on a deeper level.
Creating SophsinFocus
During that time, I decided to rebrand and position myself in a more professional way which is how SophsinFocus came about.
It was a shift towards something more refined and intentional, and it marked the point where I started seeing photography as a business.
Growing locally
After the pandemic, I continued building my presence online, but I knew I wanted to take things further and focus more locally.
In 2023, I officially opened my client base across Suffolk, working with individuals and businesses to provide photography that captures real moments and experiences.
Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a range of clients, from events to more personal shoots, as well as gaining valuable industry experience that continues to shape my creative work.
What I offer
Through SophsinFocus, I offer a range of photography services, including:

Why it matters

Whether that’s a moment, a brand, or an experience, having strong visuals allows you to hold onto it and share it in a way that feels natural and authentic.
